Technology is an amplifier of human will, aiding in the manifestation of whatever vision we have for the world and for our lives. The technology available to us today would have been unthinkable a few hundred years ago and would have seemed closer to magic than any act of engineering. It’s proliferation has resulted in the dramatic increases in the quality of life many of us enjoy, with convenient access to a staggering abundance of resources and capabilities. Unfortunately, technological advances have been driven in unethical and inequitable directions in order to maximize profitability and control, leaving a large percentage of the world population in scarcity and poverty.
Nikola Tesla famously developed a tower capable of wireless power transmission that could have been the foundation of abundant access to energy for everyone on earth. Unfortunately, that vision conflicted with the agenda of Tesla’s financier, J.P. Morgan, who was heavily invested in copper wiring and a key driver of the centralization of industry. As a result, J.P. Morgan ultimately pulled funding for the Wardenclyffe Tower, allowing his hunger for wealth and power to prevent the dissemination of a technology that would have helped humanity flourish.
The unfortunate reality is that this is a common story in recent human history. Many technologies across all sectors that have the potential to improve life for everyone have been suppressed because they undermine the control matrix underlying the status quo. Thankfully, the internet has made it easier to disseminate information and technology, but it doesn’t happen on it’s own. We need to, ourselves, support the technologies that are more conducive to the ethical and abundant future we want to manifest. The time has come to “vote with our dollars.”
By advocating for ethical breakthrough technologies we can help usher in an age of abundance where everyone has an opportunity to Thrive.
